(September 21st 2006): "The FBI's surveillance of Lennon is a reminder of
how easily domestic spying can become unmoored from any legitimate law-enforcement
purpose. What is more surprising, and ultimately more unsettling, is the degree
to which the surveillance turns out to have been intertwined with electoral politics.
At the time of the John Sinclair rally, there was talk that Lennon would join
a national concert tour aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in politics
- and at defeating President Richard Nixon, who was running for re-election. There
were plans to end the tour with a huge rally at the Republican National Convention." yoko

Lennon's perceived "threat" to the U.S. government is the highlight
of a new film that documents his transformation from pop idol to political activist
and offers a fresh look at this former Beatle's career. "The
U.S. vs. John Lennon" will be released later this month. Yoko Ono cooperated
with the filmmakers, opening her archives of rarely seen footage of the couple's
fight for peace. "One thing that brought us together was the fact that both
of us were rebels in so many ways," she said." Apple

"The Berkeley Art Museum is delighted to present an exhibition of Yoko
Ono's instruction paintings selected from that groundbreaking publication.
Gracefully expressive, enchanting, and original, the paintings are presented as
wall texts that fill the gallery in the same way that paintings on canvas do.
However, the conceptual nature of the art offers the beholder a means of taking
the paintings home in the form of a do-it-yourself idea." john

lennon releases 'friendly fire' album in september UPI (July 12th 2006):
"Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, is releasing his second album,
"Friendly Fire," on Capitol Records in Hollywood. In the eight years
since he released his first album, "Into the Sun," the 30-year-old musician
has stayed out of the spotlight -- although he has been actively involved in projects
with Ben Lee, Thurston Moore and Ryan Adams, as well as with his mother. After
releasing "Into the Sun," Lennon said in a statement, he became "disillusioned
with the machinery of the industry." He never stopped playing, but did so
more "discreetly." "'Friendly Fire' is an experiment to see what
it might be like to do music more publicly again," Lennon said. A short film
accompanies the album, which has a trailer on Sean
Lennon's Web site." a new
