said she hoped Vanunu
could collect the award in person at a New York ceremony next month, to be held
in the week her late husband, John Lennon, would have turned 64. "Hopefully
he can come and receive the award himself. He did complete his sentence, it's
not as though he's a criminal," Ono said of Vanunu. Ono also gave a $50,000
award to New Yorker magazine correspondent and author Seymour
Hersh, whom she described as "a staunch seeker of truth" with his
investigative journalism." Yoko Ono added that "People power is stronger
than the power of institutions".

my mommy was beautiful 2004
in liverpool biennial PA News (September 17th 2004): "The project,
entitled My Mummy Was Beautiful 2004, is one of 40 new artworks by 40 artists
commissioned for the Liverpool Biennial International exhibition. Yoko said: This
work was initially about my mother. But when I decided to do it in Liverpool,
suddenly I remembered how John loved his mother, and it choked me up. So this
one in Liverpool will be my tribute to John. I think it will look very beautiful
spread over this highly energised, beautiful city, the one John loved so much,
and the one Ive grown to love. this
is not shocking, it's your mother / "my mommy"
Liverpool
Echo (September 17th 2004): "Despite the title of her latest offering, Yoko,
however, admits her own relationship with her mother was not perfect. "I
was not very nice to my mother," she says.. "I am sure everybody has
the same experience. Much later, when I made the Onobox and I was making this
in the studio going through all my music, about 150 songs. I thought how great
it was that I had made all this music and I thought well really this has a lot
to do with my mother who first put me into this school for early education of
music. So I called her completely out of the blue and said 'mummy I just want
to thank you for letting me go to that school and giving me a musical education'.
She started crying. I think really that that was the only nice thing I did for
my mother."
