formal dedication ceremony for the Bronte Harbour Peace Pole took place Saturday
complete with a personal dedication message from Yoko Ono, the widow of the late
Beatles' member John Lennon. The official ceremony took place last Saturday morning."
"If one billion people in the world think peace - we'll get peace. You may
think 'How are we going to get one billion people to think peace?' Remember, each
one of us has the power to change the world," said Ono's message." imagine
john lennon when he was 64
The Scotsman (October 8th 2004): "If Paul
McCartney can still tour, so could John Lennon. McCartney is good, but only John
Lennon could do dirty rock n roll." Also, "He would also
have had enlightened views on health issues and the ethical treatment of animals.
The irony is all the things about which he was concerned - the planet, peace and
individual spirituality - have all become major issues today. He was ahead of
his time." Stanley Parkes, Lennons older cousin adds: "I dont
think he would have kept the long hair," he said. "I imagine him with
it tightly cropped. I also think he would have written more music, such as musicals.
He was keen to expand into other areas."
peace
obelisk to be erected in reykjavík, iceland According to Dance
Front Door (October 5th 2004), "the obelisk will be a tower of light emanating
the message of peace to all nations of the world. The obelisk will be filled with
all the wishes that people have written down and tied to the "Wish
Tree", an artwork that the artist has exhibited in many countries over
the past decade. She has saved these messages in order to make them a part of
the call for peace, which the Peace Obelisk will convey. Yoko will also be asking
people to send their messages to be added to the obelisk. To emphasize this message,
the words "Imagine all the people living life in peace" (John Lennon)
and "A Dream you Dream Together is Reality" (Yoko Ono) will be carved
on the outside of the obelisk in many languages. Traditionally an obelisk was
erected to honour the dead, but the Peace Obelisk will be raised to honour life,
and to embrace the joy of life. This is one reason why Yoko has proposed that
the Peace Obelisk be erected in Iceland, because of the country's location at
the northern top of the planet, between the continents of Europe and America.
(--) Yoko states, "This is the time there is a race
between the people of the world: the ones who yearn for Peace and the ones who
believe in destruction. It is a time when we must ask all our politicians to rethink
their strategies, and use the power of negotiation rather than the power of destruction
to solve matters concerning the future of humanity and our planet. This is the
time, we can still make our choice to heal our planet and, together, enjoy its
health and beauty for many centuries to come. Send your prayers and your vote
for life, to the Peace Obelisk in Iceland. I love you! yoko October 5th 2004." exhibition

his life. The show opens Thursday at 102 Wooster Street (between Prince and Spring

"For the photo shoots for the Protest Issue we took photos of various musicians
holding protest signs of their own creation. Yoko Ono drew the Japanese character
for peace and we photographed her holding it. We'll be auctioning off all the
signs from the issue, including Yoko's, and donating all the profits to Music
For America, a Non-Profit organization that uses music to encourage young people
to vote."
