film fest at anthology film archives, nyc, feb. 17-19 Info from luke
kurtis, the AFA press release: "In looking back at 35 years of history, Anthology
cannot forget our roots in the Fluxus art movement of the 1960s. Fluxus founder
George Maciunas was behind the scenes at Anthology providing graphic design and
even physical space for us at 80 Wooster Street in one of his cooperatives before
our eventual move to 2nd Ave in the late 80s. Fluxus performances were commonplace
at Anthology in the 1970s and those seriously fun interdisciplinary events still
inform our programming and conception of Anthology today and into the future.
We planned this series months ago, but have since shifted the focus of the last
program to be a Memorial tribute to Nam
June Paik, who passed away last month, on January 29, 2006. Fluxfilmanthology A
document consisting of various short films ranging from 10 seconds to 10 minutes
in length, made by Yoko Ono, Paul Sharits, Bob Watts, Ben Vautier, John Cale,
Jeff Perkins, Joe Jones, Cheiko Shiomi, Nam June Paik, Dick Higgins, and many
others. February 17 & 19 at 7:00" Plus

ono's peace obelisk to reykjavik, iceland Iceland Review (February
2006): "Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon, will arrive in Reykjavík on
the 25th of February for Reykjavík's winter festival to discuss a peace
column, an art work that she is presenting to Reykjavík. The column, 10
to 15 meters long, is an illuminated column of glass, full of wishes of peace
from people all over the world. On the outside there are two engraved lines of
poetry. One of the passages, "A dream you dream together is reality",
is written by Yoko Ono herself, the other, "Imagine all the people, living
life in peace" is from John Lennon's song Imagine. The passages will be translated
into numerous languages." "Yoko
