yoko ono joins vigil for john lennon in nyc
CNN (December 9th 2005): "Ono, who traditionally lights a candle in her apartment window to mark the anniversary, was escorted to the memorial by New York City police. Ono -- dressed in black and wearing large sunglasses -- spent several minutes looking at flowers and messages places at the "Imagine" mosaic that is the centerpiece of "Strawberry Fields," a section of Central Park across the street from her apartment building. She laid a bouquet of white peonies on the mosaic, whispered a few words and then walked back to her home. "That's the first time I've seen her come, especially in a big crowd. That took a lot for her to do," said one man, who told Reuters he had visited Strawberry Fields every year since Lennon's death.

Earlier, Ono's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said she would not be giving any interviews, despite having received more than 500 requests. "It's just too painful for her to discuss," he said.

The Royal Gazette (Dec 5 2005): "A quarter of a century after the late Beatle John Lennon visited Bermuda on what was to be his last summer holiday, plans are underway to create a permanent display of "Double Fantasy" freesias in the Botanical Gardens where he found inspiration for the title of his final album. Lennon's widow Yoko Ono is involved in consultation about the wording that will eventually appear on the Masterworks Foundation plaque."

kota ezawa: lennon sontag beuys (2004)
From Frieze:"In his New York solo début German-Japanese artist Kota Ezawa put archival television and video material to unusually bold use in his Lennon Sontag Beuys (2004), a reverberant and graceful inquiry into the power and overlap of popular culture, political action and high art. The show centred on an eponymous animated triptych, a deceptively simple three-card trick demanding total attention. Selecting documentary clips from John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 Amsterdam 'sleep-in' for peace, a 2001 lecture by Susan Sontag at Columbia University and Joseph Beuys' 1974 lecture at the New School for Social Research in New York, Ezawa excerpted two or three sentences from each and ran these in a continuous loop after rendering them as chunky, simplified vector-based animations."

amnesty international uses lennon's music in campaign
Press release: "Make Some Noise is a global campaign by Amnesty International that mixes music, celebration and action to protect individuals wherever freedom, justice and equality are denied. Thanks to an extraordinary gift from Yoko Ono – the recording rights to “Imagine” and John Lennon’s entire solo songbook - we are harnessing the power of music to inspire a new generation to celebrate and stand up for human rights.

The launch of Make Some Noise - set for 10 December, International Human Rights Day - will see the release of a bundle of exclusive singles from the Black Eyed Peas, The Cure, Snow Patrol and The Postal Service. This first bundle of singles will be followed in early 2006 by the release of an array of new versions of iconic John Lennon tracks from top artists, including Avril Lavigne"

Yoko Ono on the campaign website:

"Music speaks the language of
freedom, revolution and solidarity.
Without that freedom - without
music that is angry, joyful and
necessary - we are nothing."
