formula for happiness
The Independent (September 20th 2008): "Design a formula for the 21st century’ – that was the directive from the Swiss art critic Hans Ulrich Obrist to a selection of the world’s greatest creative thinkers. The result? A series of witty, playful reflections on modern life. The great romantics
The Independent (September 19th 2008): "In affairs of the heart, real life can be as romantic as fiction. Andy McSmith selects history's greatest love stories. Their affair not only broke up Lennon's marriage; Yoko was also blamed for the break up of the Beatles. But she, too, put up with a lot."
yoko ono in poland
Polskie Radio (September 12th 2008): "Yoko Ono will arrive in Poland next week to open her second art exhibit to appear at Warsaw’s Modern Art Centre (CSW) at Ujazdowski Castle. Yoko Ono previously visited Poland to hold a concert in 1986 at Torwar in Warsaw. This is her second exhibit to be held at CSW; her first was in 1993. This is Ono’s third visit to Poland."
AFP (September 17th 2008): "John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono said Wednesday the world's small countries should be given a chance, as she launched a retrospective exhibition of her art work in the Polish capital. "The reason I feel so close to Warsaw and Poland is also because I come from a small country and these small countries are always between big countries and how we survive is an incredible thing," Ono said. Her Warsaw exhibition, called "Fly", opened on the 69th anniversary of the Soviet Union's attack on Poland, which Ono said was a coincidence. However, the 75-year-old Japan native said the work in the retrospective was selected with the devastation Poland experienced in World War II in mind. "When I selected the work, I was thinking about the fear, pain and suffering you went through during the war," she said. "I myself was in Japan during the Second World War as a young girl and remember there was incredible poverty, pain...but such pain gives incredible wisdom." She added: "I've come here not only to show my work, but also to say I love you and we are all one family, with the sensitivity of countries that are not big, with the wisdom to survive."
Polskie Radio: "Yoko Ono is clearly one who wants to cover the world with love - not a single cynic or pessimist can deny the necessity of her efforts. Maybe she is naively idealistic, but, at 75 years old, that alone is enough to give us all hope of victory over those bent on destroying our world."
