a
global war is over (if you want it) billboard campaign Press release
(August 2nd 2006): "Yoko Ono will reprise the 1969 Happy Christmas (War Is
Over) war protest in 2006. The original billboard campaign in New York will be
given a global campaign in some of the world's largest cities later this year.
The Lennons conducted the original protest in retaliation against the war mongering
tactics of the Nixon administration. The Yoko 2006 protest sends a message to
the Bush administration. "Never in a million years, did we think that promoting
World Peace could be dangerous. Were we naive? Yes, on that account, we were.
John sings: 'Nobody told me there'd be days like these.' That was his true confession,"
says Yoko Ono in a statement, "These songs have become relevant all over
again. It's almost as if John wrote these songs for what we are going through
now." The New York billboard is scheduled to go up on
August 2nd on 7th Avenue at 10th Street. The Los Angeles billboard is scheduled
to up on August 15th on the north side of Sunset Boulevard at Cory Avenue, facing
east. The billboards are part of Lionsgate's aggressive marketing
plan for THE U.S.
VS. JOHN LENNON, which is produced, directed and written by David Leaf and
John Scheinfeld. The co-production with VH1 Rock Docs is a compelling and provocative
look at John Lennon's transformation from beloved musical artist to anti-war activist
to iconic inspiration for peace that also reveals the true story of why and how
the U.S. Government tried to silence him. Lionsgate will
announce additional activities and projects inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono
in the coming weeks." www.joinnutopia.com
