yo la tengo is murdering the classics
CMJ (April 24th 2006): "Yo La Tengo have self-released an album of covers taped at annual WFMU fundraisers from 1996-2003. Every year since 1996 the group has helped the independent, freeform station raise money by playing requested covers on-air for live pledges during host Gaylord Field's show. A collection of those performances, Yo La Tengo Is Murdering The Classics, which features the New Jersey band's impromptu takes on tracks by acts as diverse as the Stooges, Billy Joel and Yes, was released by their own Egon label."

One of the tracks on this CD is Don't Worry, Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow) by Yoko Ono.

the peace choir 2006
A pacifist essay by R. S. Kurtz, which also comments about Yoko Ono's appearance in Turin in the Winter Olympics: "Toward the end of the ceremony we watched as Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon, reached out to listeners world-wide to encourage them to work toward world peace. As she concluded her remarks the strains of one of Lennon's most memorable works played as the words were sung to a spell-bound audience."

"lennon seance tasteless, tacky and exploitative"
BBC (March 22nd 2006): "John Lennon was an amazing communicator of heart, mind and spirit," Mr Mintz said. "He still speaks to those who choose to listen to his recordings. That was the medium he chose to speak with us." The programme was "another example of the misuse of John's affirmation of life as opposed to the preoccupation of his death", he said."

"all we are saying" interview film
Calendarlive (March 8th 2006): "All We Are Saying" is the second film by actress Rosanna Arquette. (--) Arquette's taste — I assume the interview choices mirror her own record collection — is wide, if not exactly radical, and her talking heads include Joni Mitchell, Steven Tyler, Tom Petty, Thom Yorke, Burt Bacharach, Sean Lennon, Mary J. Blige, Willie Nelson, André 3000, Sting, Gwen Stefani, Flea, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Annie Lennox, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and Ben Harper."

yoko ono about the muhammad caricatures
From Artforum.com (Feb. 27th 2006): "Yoko Ono has expressed dismay at the recent scandal over caricatures of Muhammad. "I do not want to criticize the caricaturists," said Ono in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung. "But I think it was wrong to draw these images. An apology is urgent. The most important thing is understanding other opinions and ways of living. I know how caricatures can be hurtful from my own personal experience. When John [Lennon] and I married, there were so many mean, ugly images of us. They hurt us a lot, but we did not say anything." Ono was in Berlin for her exhibition "Heal," which takes place at the Galerie Davide di Maggio through March 28.
