Yoko
says, "Don't get defeated by bullying!" "In
the middle of the increase of Japanese children's suicide rates due to bullying,
Yoko Ono (73), a wife of the late John Lennon, who came to Japan to participate
in the charity concert, spoke on the importance of life by saying "life enables
you to do wonderful things," on the 2nd of November. She also referred to
the bashing she has suffered from the entire world related to the breakup of the
Beatles. She mentioned about her bitter memories, "I had confidence in my
art. I could get over it because John was there for me." By
Yoko Ono's proposal, "John Lennon Super Live 2006" has been held every
year since 2001. With the past 5 year's earnings, it was able to provide education
by building up 54 schools in 17 countries for needy children in Asia and Africa.
Yoko Ono attended a press conference that was held on the
2nd of November in Tokyo prior to the live concert of this year. She mentioned
about suicide problems due to bullying among children and students that are occurring
consecutively. When reporters asked a question, "there are many suicide phenomenons
due to bullying," she started saying, as if choosing words, "I have
been bullied by the entire world, too." When the Beatles
who were maintaining a world popularity announced a breakup in 1970, she was bashed
from the media in all over the world as a person who separated John from the Beatles.
By knowing how it feels, she criticized the ones who do bully, "the level
of (bullying) is extremely low. When they can do other things that are more fun,
they will lose interest in bullying." On the other hand,
she emphasized by making an example of the fact that she did not stop her art
activities during the bashing, "I was confident in my art. I could get over
it because John was there for me too." She sent a message
for those who are encountering bullying, "It is important to find something
you can devote yourselves to. Please hang in there." Dream
