Although
I was 4 when John and Yoko held the bedin for peace, I grew up understanding that
only by initiating thought and setting an example can we ever hope for the ultimate:
peace...in the cities, in the suburbs, in America, in foreign countries, on earth.
Too often people are caught up in their own lives; many rarely spare a thought
as to what peace means. To me, peace means unconditional love for humanity. People
have to step forward and speak out, and help to accomplish what John and Yoko
started. Saying "We want peace" isn't good enough. It is our responsibility
to make this a better world for ourselves and our children. If it means lobbying
for stricter gun laws, or becoming involved in our community, or helping people
you come across every day, it matters. And it does make a difference. Life is
a gift, and should be treasured and appreciated---possessions, money, status,
etc. may make us more comfortable, but it's what we do with the life that is given
us that matters most of all. Dawn Jarboe
