| Excerpts
from La Vanguardia (28/09/2001)
"All visitors
at Palau de la Virreina will have the chance to share creative tasks with the
artist during the exhibition Yoko Ono Impressions in Barcelona, Spain. The exhibition
consists of instructions, concepts, more than actual objects of art. A wish
tree is located at the patio of the entrance of Palau de la Virreina, and
it welcomes the visitors and serves as the introduction to the interactive nature
of the exhibition. The visitors can write their thoughts and wishes down, and
hang them to the branches of the wish tree. One of the key pieces in this exhibition
is Mend Piece For The World: a table full of broken pieces of china, waiting to
be repaired. As Yoko Ono couldn't attend the opening of the exhibition, she chose
to telephone the exhibition visitors as well as the journalists at the venue on
the opening day."
Yoko Ono sees art as a form
of survival / El Mundo (28/09/2001)
"Yoko Ono cancelled
her trip to Barcelona for security reasons because of the recent terrorist attacks
in the United States, but she said that "art will now become a form of survival".
As she telephoned the exhibition visitors from New York City, she commented the
attacks by saying that "It's a terrible situation because it means that nothing
is for certain." For this exhibition in the Virreina
Yoko Ono has created a special new piece, Mend Piece For The World, dated September
11th 2001, the day of the attacks in the United States. The new piece consists
of a long table on which there are pieces of broken china and tubes of glue so
that the broken china can be mended to be whole again. Yoko
Ono is one of the pioneers of conceptual art and she has created numerous performances
and pieces of art. The lucky exhibition visitors will be able to speak directly
with Yoko Ono on the phone until the end of the exhibition on January 6th 2002:
the artist will call the phone located at the exhibition venue in the afternoons." Jorge
